Monday was the first day of the school year for Vernon ISD students. While the students are in their classrooms, the district administrators are working to keep them safe.
In the past two years, Vernon ISD has spent more than $30,000 to improve school security.
“I never would’ve dreamed that we would have to take the steps that we have to do,” Superintendent Jeff Byrd said. “We love our kids and we’ll do whatever we require to keep them safe.”
